To get things started

Post  BrandonB on Fri Sep 02, 2011 1:21 am

So to get things started I was wondering who was thinking of playing modern and what decks their gonna build/play

Like im thinking of building a pyromancer deck with cryptic command and the punishing fire combo

I am very excited for Modern! That sounds like a cool idea...post a list maybe? I can help you come up with some ideas for it if you want.

I am looking at building a Tezzeret list (which I will be posting shortly) and possibly G/UG 12 Post.

I like the Punishing Fire Combo haha very nice! Have you thought of having the Storm combo? I think it is very powerful, considering you can win on turn one....just saying! Haha but other than that this looks pretty cool! Boomerang is disgustingly good!

Grapeshot and Pyromancer's Swath.

Although this hand is unlikely, it demonstrates the sheer power it has:
Play a red source (Mountain, Steam Vents, pick your poison)
Rite of Flame (2 red in pool)
Desperate Ritual (3 in pool)
Pyretic Ritual (4 in pool)
Manamorphose (drawing one of our cards. This card is really used anywhere in the combo. 4 in pool)
Seething Song (6 in pool)
Pyromancer's Swath
Grapeshot. They take 21 to the face.
Do a dance and ask them if they are mad.

lol that looks like amazing fun, but a one in thousand hand, and i need more consistancy then that if im giving up 8 slots and 4 go to another enchantment, maybe SB trick?

edit: looked at it again and all of the enabler cards take up way to many slots to play in this deck, that looks like a all or nothing combo, either your entire decks in or do something else

Maybe. Dig spells (i.e. Ponder, Serum Visions, Preordain) and Gifts Ungiven make any combo viable really. Just something to think about! I have seen similar Storm decks have pretty consistent turn 3 combos. They just have to merely wait for the perfect moment to spring the trap!

Food for thought. Can't wait to test!

I doubt it, unfortunately. But I mean, you don't HAVE to run Goyf in anything, you know? And the Shock lands are not TOO pricey hahaha

Something came to my attention just now, your mana base.
It will be EATEN ALIVE by the amount of non-basic hate there is out there. There is A LOT. Ghost Quarter, Tectonic Edge, and to a lesser extent, Blood Moon. To name a few. I would look at running 2-3 Islands and like 1 Mountain in there somewhere.

Don't play boomerang when you can play Repeal bro, that card is retarded. Esp since the curve of most decks permanents are all identical. And things that don't play permanents (combo) doesn't really care if you bounce a land. And drawing a card? Bam! Nuts stuff.

Oh man I had almost forgotten Repeal was in Modern. I agree. Repeal is amazing, you should definitely run it.
